Job Description

Electrical Engineer - Power & Energy Systems

What We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in intelligent power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing. We are hardware and software developers with experience turning research into impactful products for military and commercial applications. We are a startup founded for the purpose of putting research into action. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs… at the speed of relevance. We are hiring for an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer.

Integer’s power & energy systems portfolio supports the DoD developing intelligent electrical power systems for ships and ‘smart’ microgrids where the Electrical Engineer will develop embedded models and novel control systems. We are prototyping new technologies for monitoring and forecasting components’ states and autonomy for human-machine teaming that shortens the response time and reduces the cognitive workload of human operators. Our power & energy systems portfolio also includes work supporting hybrid and electric propulsion systems, large-scale energy storage devices (> 1MW-hr), autonomous controls, and integration with mission systems to achieve ultra-fast power system response.

About the Role

The Electrical Engineer collaborates within a close-knit engineering team performing R&D on multiple projects involving electrical power systems, energy storage, controls, and hybrid propulsion systems. You communicate clearly and often with project managers to understand project goals and timelines, and successfully break higher-level project goals down into smaller tasks and milestones. You are motivated to always put your best work forward, but you also aren’t afraid to experiment with new ways of solving problems. You enjoy a balance of software-focused tasking, such as writing code and building simulation models, and hardware-focused tasking, such as wiring up new test equipment or data acquisition and controls devices. You build and validate high-quality simulation models of electrical systems, develop and test novel controls solutions, and work with your team to demonstrate functioning prototypes of next generation power & energy systems to our customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

  • A solid understanding of the fundamentals of power systems, circuits, and classical control theory (e.g. PID).

  • Proficiency with at least one scientific modeling & simulation environment (e.g. Matlab Simulink, Matlab Simscape).

  • Collaborative mentality and works well on teams.

  • Growth mindset and entrepreneurial attitude, excited by learning new skills, continuous improvement, and seeing projects through to completion in a timely manner.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant work experience in a relevant industry, such as defense, aerospace, maritime, oil & gas, utilities, automotive, or industrial power systems.

  • Industry experience developing simulation models or controls systems for electrical systems (e.g. microcontrollers, PLCs, SCADA systems, or similar).

  • Experience writing code in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g. python, C++, Java).

  • Bonus: first-hand experience with power hardware in-the-loop (PHIL) or control hardware in-the-loop (CHIL) development and testing.

Company Perks

  • Startup culture with stability: direct access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire to grow. Backlog of multiple years of contracts.

  • Base salary that exceeds industry averages.

  • Performance-based bonuses on top of base salary.

  • Full medical, prescription, vision, and dental insurance coverage for employee and dependents. Integer pays 100% of health insurance premiums for your entire family for our standard plan from a national insurer.

  • 401(k) with company matching that vests immediately; no funny business.

  • Paid Vacation

  • Paid Holidays
