Job Description

Machine Learning Engineer

What We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. Government agencies, turning research into impactful products with military and commercial applications. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing. We are hiring for an immediate opening for a Machine Learning Engineer to support multiple prototype system efforts across the organization.

Integer’s power & energy systems group supports the DoD developing intelligent electrical power systems for ships and ‘smart’ microgrids where the Machine Learning Engineer will develop data-driven algorithms for monitoring and forecasting components’ states and autonomy for human-machine teaming that improve power system performance and reduces the cognitive workload of human operators. Integer’s unmanned systems group is prototyping a new perception system for autonomous surface vessels (USVs) where the Machine Learning Engineer will develop algorithms to automatically detect objects on and just below the surface of the water, day or night, and in most weather conditions, by fusing sensor data from multi-spectral cameras and radar.

About the Role

As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will support a growing R&D team developing prototype unmanned and autonomous systems that leverage a broad spectrum of machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning) to achieve reliable machine self-awareness, environmental awareness, and decision making. You will be a hands-on code contributor and the person who sets the technical agenda for integrating learning algorithms with our existing R&D work, including ‘smart’ electrical grids and unmanned maritime vessels. You will play a critical role in defining and realizing the infrastructure needed for establishing and growing machine learning research at Integer Technologies. You will participate in many live test and demonstration opportunities where you are expected to lead integration of prototype ML-enabled systems onto vehicles, troubleshoot issues that arise, and showcase your latest developments to the customer. You will contribute your expertise, creativity, and passion to the whole Integer Team to grow future opportunities for machine learning research.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in computer science or engineering with a demonstrated background in machine learning.

  • 3 years of experience developing machine learning enabled software systems with common libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, etc.

  • Strong understanding of the state-of-the-art (and limitations) in machine learning approaches, particularly deep neural networks and reinforcement learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.

  • U.S. citizenship. Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience deploying machine learning applications on physical or robotic platforms, for example ground vehicles, maritime vessels, aircraft, or industrial robotics or process automation.

  • Experience developing applications for a variety of processing architectures, including GPU and/or FPGA.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Bonus: previously the Principal Investigator (PI) for a DoD-funded research project and/or have written successful proposals.

Company Perks

  • Startup culture with established growth trajectory: direct access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire to grow

  • Base salary that exceeds industry averages

  • Performance based bonuses

  • 100% Employer paid medical, prescription, vision, and dental insurance coverage for employee and dependents

  • 401(k) with company matching; 100% vested upon enrollment

  • Paid Vacation/Holidays/Sick leave
