Job Description

Senior Control Systems Engineer

What We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. Government agencies, turning research into impactful products with military and commercial applications. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

Our power & energy systems portfolio supports the DoD’s electrification of platforms, such as Navy ships. Our research involves hybrid and electric propulsion systems, large energy storage devices, autonomy, digital twins, and integration with mission systems to achieve fast and reliable power system response.

About the Role

The Senior Control Systems Engineer is responsible for controls system design, development, integration, prototyping, deployment, test and evaluation of all advanced control systems R&D at Integer technologies, with an emphasis on rapid experimentation to accelerate transition of advanced research into fielded solutions. This role thrives on making cutting-edge ideas work in the ‘real world.’ The Principal Control Systems Engineer works both individually and in teams to develop and test cutting-edge control systems in simulation, hardware in the loop (HIL) testbeds, and fielded systems. The candidate will have first-hand experience designing, developing, and deploying industrial-grade or military-grade supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems or industrial internet of things (IIoT) networking of systems to enhance situational awareness and control of a distributed, connected system. The candidate must demonstrate an attitude for growth, continuously expanding their knowledge and skill to remain on the cutting-edge. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in one of the following areas: machinery control systems (MCS) for ships; electrical power systems or microgrids; or automation systems for factories or manufacturing facilities.

The Senior Control Systems Engineer has an integral role in the company’s growth by supporting proposal efforts, attending industry days and tradeshows, and representing our technology to customers. Finally, the Senior Control Systems Engineer is a critical mentor and reliable source of technical direction for all other engineers in the company.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar technical discipline.

  • Minimum five (4) years of experience developing and deploying control systems, for example: electrical power systems, microgrids, distributed control systems, SCADA systems, plant automation, or IIoT.

  • Proficient with a wide variety of industrial networking and communications protocols.

  • U.S. citizenship. Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of experience in a ‘hands on’ engineering or technical role developing and deploying military or industrial control systems.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.

  • First-hand experience with power hardware in-the-loop (PHIL) or control hardware in-the-loop (CHIL) development and testing.

  • Experience with a U.S. Navy surface vessel machinery control system (e.g. Zumwalt class destroyer, Constellation class frigate, or other).

Company Perks

  • Startup culture with established growth trajectory: direct access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire to grow

  • Base salary that exceeds industry averages
