Job Description

Software Engineer

What We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. We are hardware and software developers with experience turning research into impactful products for military and commercial applications. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing. We are a startup founded for the purpose of putting research into action. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs… at the speed of relevance.

Our power & energy systems portfolio includes work supporting the DoD’s the electrification of platforms beginning with Navy ships. Applications include hybrid and electric propulsion systems, large-scale energy storage devices (> 1MW-hr), autonomous controls, and integration with mission systems to achieve ultra-fast power system response. Our unmanned systems portfolio includes work on critical enabling technologies for more reliable, more intelligent, and longer-duration unmanned systems. We are actively developing a new perception system that automatically detects objects on and just below the surface of the water, day or night, and in most weather conditions, by fusing sensor data from multi-spectral cameras and radar using reliable and validated artificial intelligence algorithms.

About the Role

The Software Engineer is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of multiple software products at the company, and for supervising and mentoring other developers / programmers. The ideal candidate will be able to move seamlessly between management responsibilities and hands-on development. The Software Engineer is expected to take ownership of all software design and development activities, including supporting IT resources. This role must collaborate closely with other scientists and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams to prototype and test new technologies in both the power & energy systems and unmanned systems portfolios. As such, the Software Engineer must be able to balance the needs of multiple projects simultaneously and must quickly pick up new concepts from other engineering disciplines and architect software solutions to achieve project goals. Many of our projects and products involve software deployed on physical systems and vehicles that must operate in harsh environments. Therefore, we are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated experience developing applications for robotics, automotive, manufacturing, oil & gas, industrial internet of things, or defense and aerospace applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics) from an accredited college or university.

  • 5 years of applicable work experience.

  • Experience managing software development according to continuous integration, continuous development (CI/CD) and ‘DevSecOps’ best practices.

  • Ability to accurately forecast time and level of effort to achieve a desired result, create project schedules, and deliver on-time.

  • Mastery of multiple algorithm and software development languages (e.g., Python, Java, R, C, C++ …), libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras …) and platforms (e.g., MATLAB …)

  • Experience leading a team of application developers and mentoring other developers to improve their skills where needed and maintain high software standards across the company.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness working on multiple projects simultaneously to achieve results.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Experience programming for Field programmable gate arrays (FPGA).

  • Experience optimizing applications for GPU and/or FPGA architectures.

  • Experience developing software for fielded systems, cyber-physical systems, or other robotics application.

  • You are a 10x programmer who can hack together almost anything (full stack) while being responsible for professional CI/CD workflows for an organization that is scaling up and run quality assurance for other developers under your supervision.

Company Perks

  • Startup culture with stability: direct access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire to grow. Backlog of multiple years of contracts.

  • Base salary that exceeds industry averages.
