Job Description

STEM Workforce Development Associate

What
We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. We are hardware and software developers with experience turning research into impactful products for military and commercial applications. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in controls and automation of maritime vessels, uncrewed systems, maritime perception, digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing. We are a startup founded for the purpose of putting research into action. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs… at the speed of relevance.

Our unmanned systems portfolio includes work on critical enabling technologies for more reliable, more intelligent, longer-duration, and cyber resilient unmanned systems. We are actively developing a new perception system that automatically detects objects on and just below the surface of the water by fusing sensor data from multi-spectral cameras and radar using reliable and validated machine learning algorithms. Our power & energy systems portfolio includes work supporting the DoD’s the electrification of platforms beginning with Navy ships. Applications include hybrid and electric propulsion systems, autonomous controls, and integration with mission systems to achieve ultra-fast power system response.

Integer’s model includes partnering with universities to develop long term collaborative research efforts for the Department of Defense that serve to not only advance the state of the art for critical technology, but also build a robust pipeline of STEM students who understand the DoD’s mission sets and challenges. In support of this goal, we are launching efforts to grow the diversity and strength of the STEM and DoD workforce. These projects include partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions (HBCU/MSI) to increase their defense research capacity and building roadmaps for the Navy identifying ways their funding can build a stronger workforce.

About the
Role

The STEM Workforce Development Associate requires passion and drive to help the Navy continue to build a robust, diverse, and enduring cyber and STEM workforce. This role requires coordination with Integer’s cyber physical systems research team, as well as the ability to interface with stakeholders at university and in government to identify gaps in workforce and research capacity, conduct outreach and awareness building events for the STEM and cyber security workforce, and construct university-industry engagements that strengthen the employment pipeline for STEM students joining the naval research and development enterprise.

The STEM Workforce Development Associate will also work with Integer leadership to develop roadmaps for government partners outlining approaches to increase the diversity and strength of the naval workforce. This will require identifying challenges with current and past approaches, identifying how to improve those approaches, and articulating those findings to the government. The STEM Workforce Development Associate requires the ability to understand challenging science and engineering topics and the mindset to tackle workforce diversity questions with both a human story qualitative approach as well as a quantitative and results driven approach.
