Job Description

Technical Program Manager

We Do

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for technology and national security. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. Government agencies, turning research into impactful products with military and commercial applications. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

Our power & energy systems portfolio supports the DoD’s electrification of platforms, such as Navy ships. Our research involves hybrid and electric propulsion systems, large energy storage devices, power converters, autonomy, digital twins, and integration with mission systems to achieve fast and reliable power system response.

About the

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) role requires a strong background in traditional program management skills such as organization, communication, scheduling, and reporting while also having a technical understanding of electrical power systems and/or Navy applications. Whereas a Principal Investigator (PI) bears ultimate responsibility for satisfying the scope of a contract on time and on budget, the TPM is simultaneously the PI’s deputy to ensure the program is healthy and an in some cases an individual technical contributor, in that order of priority.

The candidate must be organized and detail oriented. This role involves interacting with customers whose needs are constantly evolving and are sometimes difficult to articulate; thus, strong communication skills will also be beneficial. The role involves coordination with prime and subcontractors, so the ability to diligently coordinate efforts and courteously navigate roadblocks is essential. Experience with managing labor, material, travel, and subcontractors to stay on budget is important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embody Integer’s core values: Integrity, Agility, Growth, Open-Mindedness, Commitment.

  • Be the project management support for a principle investigator (PI) leading a team of engineers developing novel electrical power system controls based on digital engineering techniques.

  • Ensure timely and high-quality completion of deliverables for the projects under your management, including briefing to prime contractors and Government sponsors. Specifically, coordinate the project’s technical contributors monthly and quarterly to provide written technical reports and presentations to the customer, ensuring alignment of the efforts with the project statement of work.

  • Organize and prioritize the team’s efforts to achieve regular test and demonstration of new features and performance improvements.

  • Plan and clearly communicate tasking to the engineering team on multiple timescales (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly). Specifically, own the scheduling aspect of program execution, drive the engineers to achieve the tasking and schedule identified by the PI, and communicate the effects of any slippage in a gracious but firm manner.

  • Clearly communicate development plans and status to company executives (COO & CEO).

  • Track and forecast costs; report status relative to given metrics monthly to company upper management. Provide recommendations to the PI on how to adjust tasking to track the financial targets.

  • Coordinate technical updates and timing of shared laboratory space with the customer and any subcontractors.

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or business management.

  • Experience managing engineering projects including driving schedule and budget.

  • Technical proficiency in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.

  • Experience with ship power systems, microgrid power systems, and/or integrated power system concepts.

  • U.S. citizenship. Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • A graduate degree (Masters/PhD) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or business management. A record of relevant industry experience, technical leadership, publications, or other recognitions for expertise may substitute for an advanced degree.

  • Experience with power systems in military and/or marine applications.

  • Experience using software version control and working in an agile coding environment with peer collaboration and code reviews.

  • Experience writing, simulating, and deploying control software for power systems and power system components.

  • Integer fully covers medical, prescription, vision, and dental insurance costs for the employee and dependents. Meaning Integer standard plan pays 100% of health insurance premiums for your entire family from a well-known national insurer, saving its employee’s thousands of dollars annually.

  • Relocation assistance available.

  • Base salaries which exceed local & national industry averages.

  • Year-end performance-based bonuses.

  • 401(k) with company matching that vest immediately; no funny business.

  • Paid Vacation

  • Paid Sick Leave

  • Paid Holidays

Company Perks

  • Startup culture with the stability of a large company. Integer’s business plan has years of time phased contracted work, alleviating the would-be risk from a traditional small company.

  • Direct access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire for personal and professional growth.

  • Friendly atmosphere where people enjoy not only their work and what they're creating but enjoy helping each other as well.

  • Bottomless Coffee!
